Description

Real-Life Reader Biographies present the lives of contemporary role models for young readers. These are the stories of real men and women who, dispite many obstacles, followed their dreams.

In 1960, Dr. Seuss created the book Green Eggs and Ham using just 50 words. Bennett Cerf, the head of Random House Publishers had bet Seuss he could not do it. But Dr. Seuss always enjoyed a challenge. And he especially liked to write books that children who were just learning to read could enjoy.

Born Theodor Seuss Geisel in 1904 in the small city of Springfield, Massachusetts, Dr. Seuss was a talented author and illustrator. Throughout his life he worked as an advertising artist, he wrote for many magazines, he published cartoons and comic strips, and he worked for the Special Services Division in Hollywood when the Army sent him there during World War II. When he died at the age of 87, he was still working. On his desk he left an unfinished manuscript and several sketches. This special man will be remembered for years to come.
